Paan Kawah is a warm herbal drink made with paan leaves and a blend of traditional spices known for their soothing and digestive qualities. Ingredients

  • 2 paan leaves
  • 1 lime or lemon
  • 4 black cardamom pods
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 4 small pieces ginger
  • 1 tbsp whole cloves
  • 1 tbsp carrom seeds (ajwain)
  • 0.5 tbsp black pepper
  • 1.5 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 2 cups water
  • Jaggery to taste (optional)
  • 0.5 tsp turmeric powder (optional)

How to Make Paan Kawah

  • Step 1: Roast the Spices
    Lightly roast all the spices in a pan on low heat until aromatic. This helps bring out their natural flavors.
  • Step 2: Make the Spice Powder
    Grind the roasted spices into a fine powder and store the extra for later use.
  • Step 3: Prepare the Base
    Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons of the prepared spice powder.
  • Step 4: Add Paan Leaves
    Chop the paan leaves and add them to the boiling water.
  • Step 5: Simmer
    Let it simmer for about 8 to 10 minutes until the liquid reduces to about half.
  • Step 6: Strain
    Strain the drink into a cup and allow it to cool slightly.
  • Step 7: Finish the Drink
    Add a slice of lemon or a few drops of lime juice. Add turmeric powder and jaggery if you prefer a slightly sweet taste.
  • Step 8: Serve
    Sip slowly while warm.
