Ingredients

  • Dark roast coffee beans or ground coffee (with chicory)
  • Fennel seed powder (saunf)
  • Full-cream milk
  • Sugar (adjust to your taste)
  • Hot water for brewing

How to Make Saunf Coffee

Step 1: Prepare the Coffee

You can make the black coffee using any one of the methods below, depending on what you have at home.

American Filter Method

  • Place the coffee grounds in an American-style coffee filter.
  • Slowly pour hot water over the coffee.
  • Let the brewed coffee collect in a pot or cup.

South Indian Filter Method

  • Add coffee powder to a South Indian coffee filter.
  • Pour hot water and cover it with the press.
  • Allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes until the decoction is ready.

Step 2: Strain the Coffee

  • Strain the prepared coffee to remove any leftover particles.
  • Keep the strong decoction aside.

Step 3: Make Saunf Milk

  • Heat the milk on a low flame.
  • Add fennel seed powder and stir well.
  • Let the milk warm up so the saunf flavor blends nicely.
  • Whisk or froth the milk lightly.

Step 4: Final Preparation

  • Pour the coffee decoction into a cup.
  • Add sugar as per your preference.
  • Top it with hot saunf-flavored milk.
  • Stir gently and serve immediately.
